SANTA CLARA, Calif., (August 9, 2007) – Leading video games publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., announced today that .hack®//G.U.™ Vol. 3: Redemption™,for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, has gone gold and will be available in stores nationwide on September 10th, 2007. The triumphant conclusion of the .hack//G.U. RPG trilogy, Redemption lets players log into a virtual MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) setting one last time to learn the shocking truth behind the series’ most guarded secrets while putting their lives on the line to overcome a fearsome enemy.

In the year 2017, an MMORPG called “The World” has become a worldwide phenomenon, with millions of players spending countless hours in intense, realistic online quests. After a string of bizarre incidences in which players fell into comas after their in-game avatars were killed in “The World,” some players started to speculate that there were more sinister motives behind the game than simple escapism. In .hack//G.U. Vol. 3: Redemption, the evil entity that has infected the World has broken free of its virtual confines and is now wreaking destruction upon the real world. Now it’s up to Haseo and his brave group of friends to save the world from this monstrosity born of mankind’s obsession with technology. What will they sacrifice to save the world? What would you sacrifice?

Dothackers turns 4 years old!

Yep that's correct... 4 years ago around this time the dothackers.net domain name was purchased, and about a week later the site was up on this thing called the "Internet." A tip of the hat to those who have been with the site since the beginning, the current regulars, and to the newbies. Here's to another 4 years of .hack//MMORPG speculation!

P.S. here's a special present. Send baked cakes to cake@dothackers.net if you wish. Our server would love a treat!

Anime Expo '07: A look at .hack's niche fanbase
Posted on: Jul 28 2007 by Dave | Discuss on BBS |
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes in the .hack world. As most of you are aware the .hack//G.U. games are just the tip of the iceberg in current .hack media available. .hack//Roots (the anime) and .hack//G.U.+ (the manga, due out in early 2008 in the United States) completes the current iteration of the series. No doubt that the .hack anime series, past and present, has a somewhat strong but niche following. .hack//sign has been hailed as one of the greatest anime series of all time, and the previous games sold over one million copies combined. G.U. is in full swing in the United States and so is Namco Bandai promoting its arguably most extensive franchise.

At Anime Expo 2007 Namco Bandai came out in full force promoting not only the games, but also celebrating its unique fanbase (anime lovers, gamers, and fans of the .hack manga alike). A big fan of the .hack series and long time member of the dothackers community recently visited Anime Expo 2007, fully dressed as Tri-Edge might I add, and had the privilege of chillin' with Yuri Lowenthal, Aaron Kruase (Product Manager for the //G.U. games), and other .hack//G.U. voice actors. Below is his write-up of his experience (click Read More).

E3 2007 is underway and some Vol. 3 goodies have been released by Namco Bandai. No release date for the U.S. version has been announced yet (tentative Fall 2007 as announced on June 11th). For those of you wondering about the July 7th announcement from CyberConnect2... nothing .hack-wise was announced. The future of the series, however, has been hinted in a interview by Game Watch.
