On Epitaph Wielders, AIDA-PCs, and More

As revealed in the latest issue of .hack//G.U. The World:

AIDAs have the ability to infect PCs, affecting the player's mind. An infected player is known as an AIDA-PC. Their attacks have effects beyond the game.

The only way to effectively defeat an AIDA-PC is with an Avatar. Data Drain can separate the AIDA from the PC. This is one of the duties of the Epitaph Wielders of "G.U.".

Endrance is both an Epitaph-Wielder and an AIDA-PC.

(Translations of various things in the magazine will come eventually, depending on when I find time.)

"Epitaph Wielder" is my translation of the term 碑文使い, which as best I can tell from context refers to any of the players who can call on an Avatar. That is, any one of the eight players associated with the names of the Phases.

I thought this might be the case, but is Endrance the only AIDA-PC? I could easily see Sakubo being an AIDA-PC herself, with one side of her personality being an AIDA, though we would not know which one.

Another occurance that leaves me lost is Pai, who fights you as Tarvos. I do not believe she is an AIDA-PC, but if not, then why does she fight you?

So is Anna the AIDA that resides within Endrance? Or is it the cat on his shoulder? How was his mind affected by the AIDA? This information is interesting and certainly raises a number of questions.

Anna is probably one of the mid-bosses in the game.

From the looks of it, Tri-edge may be a kind of "force of nature" like cubia, and Endrace the real villain, with basically double the normal power.

In any case, this is awesome, we now know the special power ovan was talking about.

Does anyone else find it creepy that the evil AI's are now trying to gain entrace to the real world throght people's minds by giving them power?

I can just see it now, a formerly innocent player now an AIDA-PC, drunk on the power and fighting him as a boss.

Great story concept.

i would call them crazy, because who want's to be here?

your right though, it does make a good story concept.

wait a min. is endrance the only epitaph wielder, or are all the new phases epitaph wielder's as well?

and can they all use data drain(i have yet to see the movie velocity7 found, so if it's in there i haven't seen it yet)

well the theory is sound

it would explain how an innocence player like haseo
turned from peaceful, scaried and shy turned to homicidal maniac, seeking some justice

every from the Infinity 8 have a epitaph ,haseo wakend his epitaph afther Tri-Edge data drained hime

now i think that and AIDA infected Kite PC turning him to Tri Edge and some how survived the fire

well i think that have too do whit the Disapearance of Ovan and Shino he felted that he was alone and decide to change style

In the manga, both Pai and Yata work for CC Corp, so it is pretty safe to say that Pai isn't an AIDA-PC. Haseo is asked to help them defeat the AIDAs, and he joins only to help everyone who has been DDed [he really doesn't like Yata and Pai, so he didn't join for them], so she is probably fighting you over a disagreement or something along the plot. Savvy?

I dont think they would take it that far just for a disagreement.

It isn't for a disagreement, Pai wants Haseo to DD her. The situation of Aida PC is probably Endrance, since he can manipulate that black matter, and you must DD Anna to seperate it from Endrance, Remember, he is one of the 8 so he is gunna be aligned with Haseo somewhere in this adventure. Sakubo isn't an Aida PC since she was attacked By Tri Edge, not infected by him.

Woah! Awesome!

So these AIDA-PC's have some sort of mind control power. Yea, we're kind've drifting into new territory for .hack. >_>

I also think all Epitaph Weilders are AIDA-PC's of a sort. Just that they're not influenced by their AI symbiots and they're bonded to the Phases.
