CyberConnect2 unveils "Red Data Children"

As part of their new science fiction-themed "Coda Project," CyberConnect2 has begun running Red Data Children, a sidestory novel to their upcoming game Solarobo, in Dragon Magazine. Taking place 7 years prior to Solarobo, Red Data Children tells the story of Roze, a young "hybrid" (someone who looks like a human in the anthropomorphic animal world of Coda Project) who escapes from a laboratory, until to discover an outside world that despises those who are different.

The new novel will be supervised by CyberConnect2, written by Daishi Kitayama, and illustrated by Dmyo. Dmyo, who has done a lot of work for online games, did illustration work for Trickster and main character design for EZ2ON. Daishi Kitayama is the author of the Explorer and Holy Resistor light novel series.

If nothing else, Red Data Children's title alone is sure to appeal to CC2's .hack fanbase. It combines the glory of Red October, the mystique of Data Drain, and the sheer esoteric-ness of Advent Children. It's also a sign that, like Project .hack before it, the Coda Project may be a massive undertaking that will span several different forms of media.

CC2 Unveils "Strelka"

CyberConnect2 has revealed more details about their brand new project, titled "Strelka." Named after one of the dogs sent to space by Russia, the game will feature an anthropomorphic canine as the main character, similar to the recently-announced game Solarobo, and the company's first game, Tail Concerto. Like Solarobo, the game is being developed in celebration of the company's 15th anniversary. CC2 has launched a Teaser Site showing artwork for the game. Although by no means conclusive, example organizational charts on the company's website hint that this game may be a PS3 exclusive.

CyberConnect2 Announces Game So Original It's Made in a Different City

We all know .hack is ending, but for CyberConnect2, the studio housing the creative minds behind our beloved series, this means a chance to work on something totally new. Their Ultimate Ninja series continues to wow E3 attendees, and recently they announced Solarobo, the successor to their 1998 saga Tail Concerto.

More recently, however, the company announced the creation of a brand new branch in Tokyo―much more of a hotbed of game development than southern Japan, where the company's main branch is located. The new branch is hiring an entirely new team, and will work on a totally new, as-of-yet unannounced project.

Although the design and programming teams are new, company president Hiroshi "Piros" Matsuyama will no doubt ensure the project's quality and feel reflects his company's work thus far, and the game will most likely feature the same amazing music we've come to expect from CybectConnect2's spectacular sound team LieN.

The game's platform and genre remain shrouded in mystery, but what we do know is that they are looking for network programmers with experience in online games and games with online functionality. Let the imaginations run wild!

The .hack fanbase rules, just in case you haven't noticed. This year's panel and Anime Central was no exception to that rule. Chris and I hosted dothacker's second annual .hack panel at Anime Central, and once again it was a blast! I met some very cool .hack fans - we're all cool by default, by the way - and had a great time chatting about various .hack-ness. Everyone was excited about .hack//Link (hint hint Namco Bandai), and well... it's hard to describe the feeling meeting the fanbase in real life contrast to the interwebs. This event the past two years has made it worth all the time effort both Chris and I have put forth! Thank you all who came to the panel, and all the .hack cosplayers at the photoshoot meetup. Pics are posted on our Facebook fan page and when I get a chance to photoshop them, higher quality images will be posted on dothackers!

Chris and I plan on doing another panel next year at Anime Central - everything will be totally revamped and add even more interaction... and hopefully .hack//Link will be out by then in the U.S.

Met an awesome .hack fan at ACen but forgot to get contact info? Check out the missed connections thread on Facebook

ACen .hack photos
